Codes codes codes...

For those that don’t know the whole story I’ll give a quick tldr;

Boight my 06 back in June of this year. Drove perfectly and all was right in the world. About a week or two in i was throwing codes for injectors on the passenger side and truck wouldn’t even start anymore. New FICM from Ed with the 100hp Power Hungry tune, new FORD injector harness, new Warren Diesel 155/30 injectors, SCT tuner with custom tunes (previous custom tunes plus custom Warren Diesel tunes not yet loaded), Edge CTS2 monitor, new batteries, Warren Diesel high flow standpipes (they were only like $30 more than OEM).

Had a shop that said they knew 6.0s do the work and was told a week but that stretched out to 4 months because of issues with both parts and techs working on the truck that have no idea what’s going on. Was quoted $850 for the job, and when I went to pick it up they said $1750. Ended up paying $525 after an hour of talking to the owner. So after all that I get the truck back. Everything should be back to being all right in the world. Well it’s not sadly, and here are my issues:

Truck runs rough. It has a lope in the idle like I have a mild cam in it. At 55mph it gets an INSANE death shake to it, enough to shake a half full can of Coke (not drugs!!!) out of the holder in the center console. If I give it more throttle it’ll shift down and no rattle. Had a CEL when I picked it up, but I ignored it at the time. It’s been a few days since I picked it up now and I’ve driven it about 3 times.

Well I pulled the codes just now and I’ve got P0279 (cylinder 7 injector circuit low) and P0671 (cylinder 1 glow plug circuit).
Now when I first got it back I assumed (I know, I know) that it just needed the custom tune from Warren Diesel to compensate for the larger injectors. I have to have a windows computer to do it and our household is an Apple family. Bought a laptop online and it runs the chrome OS and it’s apparently not the same as windows so that was a no-go. I only have one friend local with a windows laptop and I’ll be loading the tunes in about 2 hours. Besides that, what else should I do to try to get this truck running correctly?

Quick update, cleared codes and reloaded one of the custom tunes from before they work at the shop. I’ve driven about a mile and it feels like it’s running much better. Codes did not come back yet, but I’m about to get back up on the highway and head home and I’ll be driving for about 10 minutes. I’ll update Again once I get home.

Hate to be the one to say it,but your gonna need a IDS or a scanner that can test the injectors uncompensated. That the only way with bigger injectors.

I think I would start with just making sure that the FICM plugs are not loose
and that the injector harness plug is also plugged in.

Not a fan of Warren's injectors. Holder is a better rebuilder. I've seen too many comebacks with there stuff.

New tune loaded and installed. Runs slightly better, but the death wobble is still there. Drove it about 30 minutes all together after the last update and CEL never came back. I think they just never erased them at the shop. Should i run it up to Ford and have them look at it?

Depends on the dealer . Way too many don't know there @ from a hole in the ground
when it comes to the 6.0L and I bet they have a lot of parts on other platforms that
also did not need to be replaced. Too many non-mechanic types that do the
"But The Book Said To". Ever ask why a car, truck, van and other things sit so long.

Will do first thing in the morning. Can they be there without a CEL though?

Yes you can have DTCs without lighting up the CEL lamp.

Ok, so I pulled the power wires off both batteries last night and let it sit for about 12 hours to reset the ECU. Hooked it all up this morning and no change. Pulled the codes (with no CEL) and as you said there were codes. They’re the same as before, the injector and the glow plug. At a loss now... this is getting ridiculous.

To help figure out what is causing your problems, you need to get a GOOD scan tool. Make sure it can read your existing codes, then clear them.
Try starting and running the vehicle and see which codes are present.
Glow plugs and harness are not too difficult.
My guess is you have a bad injector.

What’s weird, is I was getting injector seven code before placing the second review it. I replaced the second and I still get the code, so I replaced the injector harness. Brand new injector harness from Ford, and I’m still getting the code for Jack for seven. Replace the injectors, still getting the code! Yes the new injectors could have a bad one, but it’s Highly suspect for the one in bad injector I get out of the eight to going to the same place as the other band and joker was.

If you are ambitious, swap injector 7 with injector 5 or 3 or 1. Clear the codes and see if a new one pops up in a different location.
