I want to replace the tailgate on my 79..thought it would be a good winter project as mine is solid but pounded up...Ive got the lariat ranger trim...im trying to find original in good shape...might go with a dennis carpenter from original tooling...just want to stay away from cheap repops. main question is will any 73-79 gate work with all my cladding on back or were they different with all the fancy trim on back...
If that were mine, I would buy a stud welder and just redo the top dented area. Unless the inside is really beat up, that tailgate looks pretty clean to me.
When your ready, sell it and recoup some of the money it will take to purchase, ship, drill, prime, sand, paint, and assemble the new one. Lot of people out there looking for one that is not rusted through or U-shaped.
