I changed my filters a few weeks back and didn’t disconnect any wires. I changed the separator filter first with about a 1/2 gallon coming out before dropping the filter out. I the changed the under hood filter second. All in all it was a non-event.
so I changed mine out a couple weeks ago. When I opened the drain, it drained about 2.5+ gallons out. I was told that I left the drain open too long. Is that what you guys are doing too. Id hate to drain out .5 gallons and take that the filter out and get drenched with fuel. I do think I may have had a full tank. Could that have been the problem? Should I have less fuel in the tank? A little more clear instructions would be helpful. Thanks in advance guys.

Mine drained out 2.5 gallons the first time. Chickened our and just closed it. The next day I did it again and it drained 1/2 gallon and literally stopped to a drip. Then changed filter. Was no residual diesel in filter.
It looks like the valve that is supposed to shut off the flow might be a little flaky on these trucks. I'm not looking forward to my first filter change.

I had the same issue with mine. I was on a sloped driveway and the pitch of the driveway created a siphon effect and 3 gallons later I stopped turned the truck around in the driveway and tried again. Then only a small amount came out and I was good to go to remove the conditioner. I hope this helps.

On your first try the front of the truck was higher than the rear?
