One topic I don't see much about is front end alignment on our solid axle trucks. Mine seems to wander at speeds of 40-50 on secondary roads but is tight and steady at 70-80 on interstates.
I have read quite a bit about tightening the steering box adjuster but before I do that I wanted to see about getting the toe in set. Should be a no brainer. Anyone done this? Paid for it? Cost? Results?
I have 74k miles on the signature truck with tires that have about 3k miles. I have never noticed any abnormal tire wear. Last time I had the truck on jack stands I could not find a bit of play in anything. That is why I am leaning towards toe in first. It has never been adjusted. That is basically the only alignment setting, right?
Caster is also adjustable and could be off slightly but if it doesn't pull or wander at hiway speeds it probably is ok. It sounds like there is probably some play that you just haven't found, I would take it to a heavy duty truck shop and have them check it out, a dealer or car shop is not so good on these trucks.
