Huh?

Once it's loosened, it should turn without too much force. These sleeves and threads are mfg'd for regular adjustment.

If done on the proper equipment, I can't imagine any issue.

Either they saw previous damage or they used this as an excuse if not comfortable with aligning these trucks. Pretty simple procedure as used for toe alignment.

if you roll the front tires on to large cookie sheet pans, this will allow the wheels to move while adjusting the sleve very easy.

but obviously...if your shop does not know that...you need to find another shop.

can't get an alignment

Fixed, I got the alignment "teck" to at least put the truck on the rack and check the alignment (that I had already payed for). It turns out it didn't even need any adjustment. Some young know it all probably fresh out of school said "if you back up with the plow on the truck in 4wd it could pull the adjustment sleeve off the tire rod ends"... I don't think so

LOL that's funny.
If you ever do have to have the sleeve removed have anti seize placed on the threads for easy adjustment the next time.

Why the need for an alignment? I don't get why people who drive vehicles with solid front axles think or get talked into a front end alignment? Its leaf springs nothing goes anywhere, I've added lifts to my 04 my dads 00 and a couple buddies 99-04 super duties and besides adjusting the drag link to re center the steering not one has ever needed an alignment. Even the owner of the local shop in town laughes when people ask about this on solid axle trucks, unnecessary unless something is wrong

$1000 in tires, I think having the front alignment checked is well worth it.
