Rico's brake conversion

I see from your pics those are stock wheels with riveted centers ,my 56 has stock 15's .There has been much debate about calipers clearing the stock wheels. What was your experience? I'm considering the same conversion but want to retain my wheels.

Hi chickenrancher!

Yes I have the stock 15 inch wheels mounted on the truck and yes, I had to grind the calipers on the edges. To be on the safe side, in addition to that I installed spacers.
I wrote about that in another thread here in the forum:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ix-anyone.html

It's not that much to grind from the calipers, maybe 2 to 3 mm on the edge. They're very solid on the edges and aren't weakened significantly by the grinding.
You can install the kit and the wheels. If the wheels touch the calipers and don't turn around, just pull the wheel of and grind the edges until the wheels spin freely.
That's easy to accomplish. No need to dismantle the calipers to do this. I hope this will help ya.

I had to grind of a little on the calipters too and also use 8 mm spacers. With 15 inch wheels.
But I have another problem. On the original propulsion valve there is a stoplight switch with two wires on. On the new one there is only one wire ?
Am I right when I think the old one has a brakeswith for the positive wire and the new one has a brake swith for the negative wire ?
I put together the two wires and the brakelights is lighting.
Is the any quick fix to solve this ?
Do I have to lengthen the wires and install a new break swith in connection with the brakepedal ?
Or if I can find the old propulsion valve maybe install the old stoplight switch on the new propulsion valve ?

Hi Mc.

my PV came without that brake light switch. So I had to build in a T-connector into the rear brake line where I screwed in the original brake light switch with two wires. Maybe it's the easiest way for You to buy another switch with two wire connectors an replace the one which came with the PV?

Those are two different switches. The single wire on the proportioning valve turns a light on in the dash to tell you if there is a diffence in pressure between the two sides of the master cylinder. The two wire switch should be mounted on the front brake lines and is for the brake lights.

I have ordered the two line switch today. Hopefully ut will arriwe this week.
It does come out one Black wire from the propotion valve. This one is for connecting to a warning light on the dash if you want. But the one with two wire is for the stop light I am sure.
It is connected on the end of the propotion valve. It will be the same if I made a T- fitting on the line that goes to the rear brakes.

I'm sorry, yes I'm "braindead". That switch is for the brake lights. Thank Mc.

Update and more questions .

Hi.
I have been driving my truck this summer and the brakes are great !
It seems like the calipters will not let go of the pressure right away after I let go of the brake pedal. But jt is not a problem.
And now to the question.
Lately I have been thinking of replacing the original suspension with a mustang 2 suspension.
Will I be able to reuse the rotors and calipters ?
I don't know if the rotors fits the spindels and if the calipter brackets will adapt to the new suspension.

Mc
