I have an 89 F250 when I unplug the spout connector how to find runs fine it don't accelerate but when I put the spout connector back in it spits and sputters rough idle won't rev I put a different spout connector but that didn't help I was wondering if it could be in a wiring harness I did replace the distributor but it does not have a Motorcraft TFI
Ed, my Bronco's 5.8L ran ok for months with the spout jumper out (of course it didn't advance the spark timing because the spout jumper must be in for the PCM to do that).
But with the spout out it ran ok until it completely died and became a crank no start (no spark) problem.
It is odd that you replaced your distributor and are still having problems. With a replaced distributor, your PIP signal should be strong enough to go through the ICM (which I believe is on the side of the distributor on your year) and then make it to the PCM to let the PCM manipulate it to produce and advance the timing of the coil's spark.
I suggest that you put the spout jumper in and follow this decision tree:
It should let you know whether or not the PIP signal from the stator in your distributor is the problem or the TFI in your non-Motorcraft ICM is the problem.
When I ran the decision tree it pointed to the problem being the stator in the distributor was not putting out a strong enough PIP signal (cam position signal) to the TFI in my fender located ICM.
I found a new old stock Motorcraft distributor and then modified it with the collar from my old distributor and since then everything is working fine even with the spout jumper in.
