distributor troubles and timing

I just put in a new eec and had to take out the distributor to do it, I made all my marks so that it will lign up when i put it back in( wires, rotor, etc.) But something is different now. The engine is hard to turn and sometimes wont turn at all. I had noticed that the positive battery cable was getting really hot from trying to start it . The book says position say make the rotor lead a littlle bit. So they want me to make it ahead up my mark right? and other sugestions would be great, I am very new at this and know very little about timing, any help would be great, i dont think they are speaking my english in the haynes manual.. I don't understand, why did you have to pull the dizzy to install a new computer? I am assuming, when you say EEC, you are referring to the circuit board in the cab attached to the 60 pin connector.
What is the procedure in Haynes you have been using? give us a page or chapter/section and I'll read it too.

OK I started thinking again, did you replace the ignition timing module or TFI module? Sometimes it is mounted on the distributor, or later on it was mounted on the fender. You are correct, that is the EEC module as opposed to the PCM which I originally referred to.

Try to be more specific, I am not sure if you have duraspark 3, or TFI IV

I got it in corectly, I was 1 tooth too far, ? and I dont think that whoever had the plugs on in the first place had them on correctly cause I numberd them as to how I took them off and marked the cap for that purpose, and I put them on acording to the book and it worked fine and ran really good, I think the timing might be just a hair off. And now Its not charging, hmm? I am going to take to autozone tomorrow and have them check the alternator. Is there a wire around there that could have come loose? I dont know about the duraspark either , how would I tell?

I think he replaced the TBI or whatever is on the distributor. I think thats what its called. Anyways, on those model years, they were right on the side of the distributor, where as the newer years were on the innerfender.

If the truck was too tough to turn over its cause it was pre detonating because your timing was too far advanced. Not sure why it quit charging though...
