On my KR if I disconnect with the truck shut off, when I restart the truck still thinks the trailer is attached and I have to deselect the trailer.

If I disconnect with the truck running it "knows" the trailer was unplugged.

I found the 2018 SD manual online this evening. It states that you MUST deselect the trailer as it will continue to log miles even after you unplug the trailer.
Definitely not how it works on my 2011 450.

I do the same and it will let you know when you have a light problem. Also keep track of each trailers mileage for your maintenance

That's interesting. I almost exclusively disconnect the trailers with the truck off and it always deselects the trailer on it's own.

i towed my travel trailer for the first time last weekend. Today I checked to see if I needed to deselect the trailer or not after seeing this thread. The first screen on the tow menu clearly stated “no trailer selected” HOWEVER when I scrolled down and selected my travel trailer it was still racking up miles! I was pulling out of the driveway and saw it adding 10ths of miles as I drove. I had to select the trailer and deselect it so it would stop adding miles. There was a pop up that said no active trailer. Poor programming IMO. I would think If the computer knows nothing is connected it should stop putting on miles. Maybe it does it like that for trailers that it doesn’t automatically recognize?

I checked today and I was incorrect.
If I disconnect with the truck running I get a message that the trailer was disconnected. But unless the trailer is deselected the mileage keeps racking up.

Looked in the owner's manual and saw this on page 116:
Note:Once you select a trailer, it remains active until you set it as no longer active. An active trailer still accumulates miles even after you physically disconnect it from your vehicle.
