Trailer programming question

I haven't towed with my 2017 SD yet. I know I'll need to add my 5th wheel rv. I was wondering if it is necessary (or even possible) to program in my 5x10 utility trailer that will be plugged into the 4 prong connection.

Thanks

I programmed in my "conventional" bumper pull and named it whatever I wanted and set the parameters for it. I don't see why the utility trailer will be different. Just remember to "disconnect"the trailer on the setup or the truck still thinks it's pulling it and will continue to log miles.....

Thanks Horsehauln8,

I'll program the utility trailer. I've read about selecting no active trailer when disconnecting. My 2104 SD knew when the trailer was not there. Seems they lost some of their smarts this time around. The 2017 is still a much improved truck and I wouldn't trade back.

I use the 7-way to 4-way adapter for my small utility trailer. It knows when it's there and when it's not.

It will still log on the miles, unless you de-select it.

If you select a fifth wheel, or a conventional trailer over 33', the blind spot indicator does not work. It is disabled.

I set up a conventional 33' trailer and it works. My fifth wheel is 39', maybe 35' over the bumper. Probably not much longer than a 33' bumper pull with a long tongue.

A Blind spot indicator that is a bit short is still useful to me, even though it's not 100% accurate.

I do the same with my enclosed 6x12 motorcycle trailer.

It will know when A trailer is connected and log the miles. What it won’t know is WHICH trailer is connected. So, if you don’t switch the programmed trailer, it will log miles on the last used trailer.

Not mine.

Hauled the 6x12 up north last TUE. I dropped the trailer @ once we got up to the cabin that night. When we left the next AM to run errands, I checked the trailer status as soon as I got in the truck and it knew there wasn't one there (the 7-way was no longer plugged in).

If you were to SWITCH from one trailer to another, sure. But not if you just unplug and go (with no trailer).

Thanks
I named my 5x10 "Utility" and my travel trailer "Camper". When I unplug either, I always deselect. Otherwise, even though the screen shows no active trailer, it will still continue to log on miles.

My truck does not do this. If you don’t have a trailer plugged in, it does not log miles on ANY trailer. You don’t have to deselect anything.

If you change trailers and don’t select a trailer it will default to the last trailer used.

This is exactly my experience.

Same experience here. Not all 2017 trucks work this way. Why? No idea.

Same here. Doesn’t matter if I use the 4 pin flat or 7 pin round. As soon as I unplug it, it stops logging miles.
