Many people have purchased a new truck with a trailer tow package without a trailer brake controller installed.
Installing an OEM integrated trailer brake controller is very easy, a 30 minute job tops.
The only problem is activating the TBC. Has anyone used Forscan software and tried to do this themselves ?
The dealers in my area want between $ 100 to 130.00 to activate the TBC, to do what looks like a 5 minute job.
I did not have forscan when I installed the TBC. As you stated, installation was pretty easy. You do have to take the left-side vent housing off to access the connector behind, but it was not too bad. Probably took me 40 minutes or so start to finish.
I had the dealer do the update, and it wasn't even a 5-minute job. More like 3 minutes, with a bunch of BS-ing along the way.
Now that I have forscan, I can see that it would be simple to do it that way. Forscan is way cheaper than the dealer.
So I take it that the Forscan software worked well for you! I don't have a problem with the dealer charging me to do it, but over a 100 bucks for couple minutes work? Forget it Ill do it myself.
Thanks for your input

I haven't done any TBC mods with Forscan, but I have rid my truck of Start/stop with Forscan. It takes some planning, but works quite well. The only down side I can see is that if you ever need to take your truck into the dealer for a repair or what ever, and there is a software update for your truck, they usually do it automatically which since the truck was never originally configured with the option that you set, that setting will be gone after they upgrade it, and you will have to re-set it what ever you changed.
There is lots of good info on forscan here in this forum.
