I have a 06 F350 2WD with 255k miles on it. I was pulling a RV leaving on vacation yesterday and when I exited the highway and slowed to turn right I heard a horrible grinding sound in the front left side. I got fuel and looked but didn’t see anything. I left and slowly got on the highway and it’s been quiet since. It’s done this a couple of times but it’s not consistent. I just did brakes $2k miles ago.
I stopped by by a ford dealer to get it in the air and check wheel bearings and they are tight. They seem fine. Tech couldn’t find anything out of whack either. Any suggestions?
Good brand which is what i put back on mine after problems with another.. but was more wondering if you got the Semi-metalic, Ceramic ect ect.
Primary reason i ask on the makeup is the Ceramics really are not good to use on these trucks.. they just will not hold especially if you do alot of towing.. Matter fact the part slingers at mine when i was telling them about my problems said it was the primary reason they recommended AGAINST ceramics on larger vehicles or anything being used for towing.. theyre good on small cars but if your over 7Klbs or towing they just generate too much heat and will slip..
mine did exactly that... hard stop for either a quick light or someone rabbiting across the street it was a praying event to get stopped.. sounded like metal on metal grinding (not squealing).. my fronts just were not gripping.. felt like the rear was doing all the work.. Since changing back to the semi-metalics that problem has gone away.. brakings returned the bias back to the front and stops great again..
i hope thats all it is for you.. but will see what your reply is. if not we can go from there...
They were duralast gold. I honestly don’t know. I’ll have to pull the receipt. The last set only lasted me $50k miles. But I guess that’s not too bad since I tow a lot. I checked the dust shield. It looks ok.

gold can come in both semi-metalic and ceramic so definitely check that receipt to see which ones you got.. ... if you do alot of towing then yeah 50K aint bad at all...
I had a weird grinding noise last spring, left front as well.
We had installed mud flaps ~6 months previously, but the noise didn't start until after we switched from winter tires to my wider summer ones. Just wide enough to rub on the mounting hardware for the mud flap during sharp turns, usually when trying to maneuver around a parking lot.
My Ex makes a grinding noise just like what you are describing. I can replicate it by different braking pressures. Mine started shortly after doing brakes as well, so I would almost be wiling to bet that yours is brake related and if you brake hard enough youll be able to duplicate the noise.
