folding mirror problems

Howdy, I've got a 2012 powerstroke f350 Lariat with a mirror that has developed a problem with the driver's side mirror. When it is folded in it will only fold out part way. I have tried syncing them to no avail. I found a motor kit listed on Ford Parts and would like to ask anyone that has installed one what it consists of. What I'm thinking is happening is the gear that sends it out is possibly slipping on the shaft as it operates erratically both directions but out is worse. Both directions pop a bit but it will fold in slowly.
Thanks in advance, with all my heart I don't want to drop $1200 on a plastic mirror!

I'm not sure what motor kit your seeing, but the folding mirror motors are not serviceable. You have to replace the mirror assembly...

I’d try WD-40 first - I lube mine every year; helps alot as they seem to dry out easily

Thank you all for the replies and am going to try the gears from Graven parts. I'll update when I get them. All y'all have a great Thanksgiving!

sounds like (if the gears are plastic which i am assumeing they are) you just need a quick shot of WD040 silicone spray (yellow can top) and that SHOULD cure the issue unless the teeth are broken on one or more of the gears...I do not have power folding mirrors but I do the same for the window motors and regs with moving parts every so often (including the window tracks on the side)

Where did you apply the WD-40?

inside the pivot point where the mirror “hinge” is. Just stick the straw on the spray can as far inside the plastic cover as you can. I don’t take anything apart. After i spray it, i fold/unfold it a bunch of times to work it in.

Thanks so much, I'll give that a try.
