the 02 is back from the body shop after spending all summer there getting some much needed love.
now that i have been putting some miles on it, (around 40 so far) i have noticed the torque converter is staying locked up for a bit, especially when i put it in reverse.
three times so far it has stalled out when put in reverse, the other 8-9 times it will load up and then release. it has also felt like it was still locked when i stopped for a red light and only released as i came to a full stop.
any ideas?
BTW, it does this with the tune in both stock or 80 econo, so i doubt it is in the 9+ year old tunes.
My E99 did that when I pick it up in Arizona this past spring, the reverse thing. Checking the transmission fluid level, almost impossible to be accurate with that white bulb dipstick level indicator, it turned out I was about a quart and half low. Added some and problem is gone. did not have the red light symptom you described though.
i was thinking low fluid. it had a leak when i took it over there the guys fixed, but i do not know if they topped it off or not. and i forgot to check it when i got home.
BINGO!!!
trans was three quarts low.
when i went to the shop for trans fluid, the guys told me the cooler started leaking and they replaced it, but must have forgot to fill the trans.
Tom, glad it was an easy problem to solve. I was driving mine back from Arizona just visioning dollars spilling out of my wallet. We did check the level in Arizona but apparently not correctly. Got back to Oregon and rechecked, added fluid and no more issues.
OK I am reviving this old thread....
Has anyone found a true and no BS way to check the trans fluid level? The white bulb dipstick kinda sucks.
I had a slight delay when going from reverse to drive so ai checked and it "looked" low so I added a quart. Things got better. But still tough to tell just where the actual level on the dipstick is.
I would like to make sure that the level is correct.
Thanks all!
Right there with you guys. Flushed mine last january, thinking it was within filled limits but came to stop sign and was THROWN into intersection..posted up problem and Mark said i was low..lol
I have no problem reading them, much easier than a 'normal' stick. When fluid is being added they can be more difficult than some metal ones because the bulb picks up fluid from the tube as it slides in/out. The older flat sticks with the 'S' bend in them do better, sticks without that are as bad as the bulb or worse.
