I thought I'd post an update for anyone interested in doing this conversion. I am using the go street 4 ( non timing control) and the fuel command center. It has been on the truck for about 8 months now.. after working out the bugs I am very happy with it. My truck is a 351m.. first challenge was intake choice. I went with a weiand 8010. So here is what I found out.
On long drives the command center would overheat causing the fuel to boil and the truck would quit. So after removing the float and check valve .. no more problems.
The other issue, it seemed to be always too rich. Lots of power but would load up while waiting at a traffic light. And would have hot start issues like a carb...solutio n is a throttle body spacer. I added a 1/2 in spacer and it's like a new truck.
Hope someone finds this useful.. cheers
Brent
Thanks so much for the excellent update, Brent. Glad you were able to get your Fuel Command Center all sorted out. I will be doing a FiTech set-up on my truck soon, so I appreciate you letting us know of various issues you experienced, and your clever solutions.
Thanks for posting an update!!
I've had my FiTech for about a month now with the Fuel Command Center. Still very few miles. I'm planning on driving it a few hours Thanksgiving day back to the family farm so I have a few questions for you.
When you say on long trips the fuel would boil, how long are you talking? How did you know that's what the problem was? How long did you have to sit before restart?
My main problem right now is returning to target idle. After dropping into park the engine idles way up and takes a while to ease back down. Did you experience anything similar?
Guys I'm at a year and a half. If you are on Facebook look at joining FiTech owners group. I am trying to tune out lean issues at wide open throttle after swapping intakes and the info provided by the group is invaluable.
I found that after about a 45 min drive the truck would lose power..any throttle application would make it fall on its face...basically only idle along. Shut down on the side of the road for about 5 min. The command center was almost too hot to touch. As far as the idle.. mine will do that occasionally.. make sure you have the base idle set correctly. Iac between 3-10 steps. Since the addition of the throttle body spacer it is much better
