I replace my plugs last year that was before I knew about the valve cover gasket problem with the connection. I just checked them two are completely open and the other six is well over two ohms my question is if I'm replacing the valve cover gaskets should I replace the glow plugs again and put Ford Direct parts in and do I need to do the quarter trick to keep the connector connected while it's open. I'd appreciate any feedback I travel for work and stay in hotels a lot where I'm not able to plug in so this is something that's been a problem for years now I just want to make sure I fix it right once and for all thank you
What brand of glow plugs did you use? Motocraft only on those things, they have 'Beru' etched into the sides of them, aftermarket glow plugs have a record of swelling and being impossible to remove without removing the head(s). The fifty cent mod is not necessary with later versions of the valve cover gaskets.
It's rare for the valve cover gasket to give up, but the UVCH failure is as common as dirt. However... your injectors connect through both of those, and you made no mention of misses or a CEL. While in there to do whatever you're going to do, I would pull one of the glow plugs out to inspect it. If it doesn't have the "BERU" on there, I would be concerned and swap them all out. If it says "Autolite" on there, I would scream loud enough to make the neighborhood dogs bark - and pray I can get all of them out to swap for Motorcraft.
