Geez its one thing to brick a phone while messing with unofficial updates... I'd hate to brick my Sync lol.
Believe me, that thought ran through my head, first when installing a non-official version, then again when the official version 2.3 hung up. But I must have a bit of upgrade junkie in me. I had to have it!

Lol....Sooner or later, one of these days someone will do an upgrade via an "unofficial" release and they will brick their SYNC system or even worse, their truck and you can bet everything you own that they will not come on here and admit it.
I tried to do the Sync 3 v2.3 update this morning. Despite a good Wi-Fi connection, the SCAN function just spun and spun for several minutes until I gave up.
Grrr...

I tried for two hours today trying to do the 2.3 update via WiFi with no luck
Great WiFi connection with a spinning scan function. I guess Ford is not ready to release this update via WiFi just yet which is the same thing they did with the 2.2 update.
I`ll try again close to the end of the month or the beginning of next month.
Trying to do this via USB and using a Mac is no fun at all.

You guys enjoy the remainder of your weekend.
It was a snap to do the update via USB. I just plugged in the prepared USB stick and the radio took over from there. Took about 25 minutes.
I downloaded the compressed file on a Mac. However, for some weird reason, the default decompressor would not properly extract the files. Instead of creating the single directory and then dumping the files into it, it named the files that directory name plus the actual file name.
I never tried just manually creating the directory and then renaming all the files minus the folder name.
So I drug the compressed file across to a VM'ed Windows 10 instance that had 7-Zip and it properly extracted the files.
If Mac is your only option, I suspect that if you go grab a free version of StuffIt Expander you should be OK.
Just make sure you format your USB key using exFAT. This is basically a version of FAT that can handle large disk space.
I updated mine last night usb. Tool over 30 minutes. It rebooted and thought it was complete but it wasn’t. Didn’t have time to see difference. I was just trying to get FordPass to work. It’s a new truck and I have a lot to learn.

Hello DISLTom,
Yes, MAC is my only option and i`ll give it a try.
I`ll have to admit that most of what you said went right over my head but i`m going to give it a try.
Lol...I think I was born a bit too early to have a great understanding of this type of computer stuff but regardless if i`m successful or not with the upgrade via USB, i`ll come back to post my results.

Hmmm... I downloaded the zipped V2.3 update file (2.2 GB, 31 minutes), unzipped the file, loaded the 2.3 update files onto a new USB stick, turned on the truck engine, plugged in the USB stick, the radio (eventually) took over, and the system has been "Updating System Software" for over an hour.
I just turned off the engine; what a waste. I suppose the radio power will time out at some point, and we'll see what happens.
That's the point at which I did a master reset and went straight to version 3. But I have Nav, which inexplicably takes a smaller file (1.6GB). I read somewhere that the Sync system has only 2 Gig of memory, and there's a two-part process for the larger the non-nav system upgrades.
