I've had a whine while driving for a while now. I just thought it was the carrier bearing going again. 01 F250 420k. I finally got nder it today to check it out. The carrier seems to be sound. I jacked up the back wheels and gave them a spin. No noise from the carrier, but there was a slight squeak fron the T- case. Before I mess with anymore, anyone have any ideas?
I see that Ford now recommends that we run xl-12 in the tcase instead of Mercon. Could that be my problem? been 150k since I changed fluid
The fact that ATF is in the case may not be your problem, but the fact that the fluid hasn't been changed for 150K might be your problem. Change the fluid with the XL-12 and see what that does for you. I think it takes something like 2.5 quarts (verify before purchasing) so the financial commitment is very small.
OK. I changed the fluid. The whine got a little better, but still there. Not very noticible during heavy acceleration or when off throttle. worst time is when just light acceleration maintaing speeds between 30 and 60
