Question Post Steering Column Project Question 11.6

All,

Following the tear apart https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...sassembly.html and reassembly https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-assembly.html of my highboy steering column, the piece that hold the turn signal (circled below) and is just upstream of the new steering column isn't tight enough to hold itself in place (i.e. you can wiggle it back and forth a little bit). This problem doesn't stop the whole she-bang from working, but I don't think it should be like this. I noted during the assembly that the only thing holding this in place seems to be the tension (i.e. "squeeze") of the big nut under the steering wheel (also circled, if I did this correctly).

Since my project is documented, I hope someone can provide their experience. I can live with this, but prefer that things are fixed "right"

Thanks,
IH -

Update: Installed the neutral safety switch and little tab from hell that moves the NSS, and note that the arm isn't as close to the firewall as it was before I tore it apart. The shift collar can be pushed down another inch or so and I'm not sure what adjustment I can make to push the collar and 3511 above closer to the firewall. I am taking it apart again tonight to see what I overlooked.

Anyone who knows what's going on - feel free to throw your experience my way

Here is are two photos of the column. The silver / worn part showing tells me that the collar, etc. isn't sitting as far down as it should. I suspect the ring pin holding everything down is in a different trough

EDIT: Another update... disassembled the entire thing again and can push down on the collar, but not enough to make it bottom out and close the gap pictured. I note from my disassembly post that the spring / ring clip is in the right place, even though there is a second place that a spring /ring clip could fit into another inch down the steering rod.

I know there is nothing at the bottom of the steering column except the tube, a spring and a hole that holds the keyed metal piece of the tube. I hope someone can chime in or show me their disassembly. Thanks,

Look at the 3541 bolt. There are two of these and retain the shift collar to the upper flange. 55690-S in their nuts.

Thank you again to NumberDummy and 75BigBlock. It's together and everything is tight. I will post what I've learned to the other two threads, as some people have subscribed to them and some information needs to be updated or corrected. The only funny thing is that my wheel cover piece now doesn't seat to the rest of the assembly, but I attribute that to the PO not having everything together correct (or it could be that I've done something less-than-correctly and don't know it yet...)
