I recently bought a 1991 Ranger with the 3.0 V6 and it has very decent factory power but I need some after market suggestions on getting it up to the next level. It is my everyday vehicle but I do enjoy going to the drag strip on weekends and would love to have the ranger out there smoking the competition...Any Ideas Anyone???????
the biggest problem, in my opinion, with the vulcan engine is the small (14lb.) injectors. get a set of matched 19 or better yet 24lb. injectors and a diablo chip programmed with the new injector sizes. unfortunately, the stock ecu cannot recognize new injector sizes, so you have to get an aftermarket custom burned chip. Also the intake on the vulcan is restrictive, so i would suggest port-matching and polishing both the upper and lowre intake manifold. then the usual cat-back free flow exhaust with a good flowmaster muffler.
I had 190k on my '91 3.0. Being my DD and relatively broke, I did the basic to wake it up. Very basic. I ran a cat-back dual exhaust with a gutted cat and good muffler. I had a K&N air filter and fitted the MAF senser from a 96 4.0. The tube diameters on the MAF sensors didn't match, but we made it work. That little truck wasn't a racer, but it was a much faster DD.
