Fellow members...all you have to do is look on the Warranty (VIN) Plate. There you will find PAINT. Look above the line (not below). If the vehicle is one color: two digits will be listed, if tu-tone: 4 digits two each spaced apart will be listed. Any autoparts store that carries touch up paint, an automotive paint supply store or a Ford or L-M dealer can decode those paint codes.

88 is to old, they don't make that color anymore, you'll have to repaint the whole truck ha ha. Hey NumberDummy, wasn't it Henery Ford who said that you could have a model T in any color you wanted, as long as you wanted black? ha ha

"You can have any color, as long as it's black."

Henry wasn't kidding either.

Now my question is, why did he say that?

Because he was a very funny man,hee hee and he wanted to CRUSH the competion with affordable vehicles for the masses. He undersood the value of a buck and back then, every penny counted. He also paid his workers better than average and encouraged them to buy a vehicle. I'm not sure if he started the employee discount thing, but he knew that if more people had money in their pockets, he would sell more vehicles.
The formulations for those old paint codes should be somewhere, don't ask me where, but the paint shop will be able to mix it up. But 20 yr old paint will not match up with the new, even if the paint is the same. It sort of fades away......

Wendell, thanks for the compliments mate!! I work in construction, and it sharpens my sense of humour. It's usually dark humour, so it's nice to express some light humour here, hee hee. I learned a long time ago that if I don't learn how to laugh in the face of adversity, I'll never survive. When I run into something that's not right, I often say 'why should it'. A sour demeanor on someones 'Dream Home' can turn into a disaster real quick. I actually didn't notice that longbedgts has been around since 2003 so he's not that new a user. You never know who might be hidding in the bushes.

Speaking of laughing at BS. Rear brake line burst before the hose to the axle on saturday. No time to fix. Best weather in 6 mos. Got local corporate garage to do it. Like wally world but not them. $100 to fix. I say ok, do it. They call back. $100 to system bleed. I say, up yours, I'll system bleed when I get the chance. Thought they would at least purge line through one side bleeder at least. NOPE. Pop the hood, MC empty. Could'nt beleive it. My own fault. They're batting 1000 for screw ups. Bled it myself, never go back. HEE HEE on them.

Fred, you didn't answer the question...why did Henry say "you can have any color so long as it's black?"

It has to do with the LACK of paint, not because of it.

I figured because black was cheap and basic, very cost effective to only have to shoot one color. By the model A, they had some nice colors, I've seen tan and green, even yellow and of course black. I can't remember ever seeing a blue, red or white model A, has anyone else? I mean an original, not a hot rod or something.
