Hello This is my first time using this site. Hopefully I can figure it out lol.
I have a 2006 F-150 and when I engage the 4x4 only the 4x4 H light comes on not the 4x4 L and the 4x4 doesn't seem to be working any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Rick
your system is called IWE...There are two steps to engaging the 4 x 4.. FIRST is to engage the transfer case behind the transmission to turn the front drive shaft.. This also selects HI or LO......... step 2 is to engage the front wheels to the front axles and driveshaft. This is done with vacuum pistons at the end of each axle halfshaft, behind the wheel/ tire..
Your system normally has the front axles ENGAGED to the wheels. When you start the motor, the VACUUM from the motor is routed to the front wheels and the VACUUM PISTON pulls the engagement OUT of 4 x 4 and into 2 x 4... If you loose vacuum the system engages the front wheels... If you WANT to go into 4 x 4, there are solenoids on the firewall that shut off the vacuum and bleed it off so the vacuum pistons ENGAGE........ below is a detailed description .
since your not getting the 4x4 LO light, I might assume the shift motor on the transfer case is not stroking all the way to engage the front drive shaft.... Either the motor is bad or you have dragging on the engagement lever.
