Need Help Identifying
So I'm interested in buying this local truck for sale but I'm a little hesitant simply for the fact that it has 7 lug nuts instead of 8. I am hoping some of you could shed some light on what exactly I am looking at. Why does it have 7 lug nuts? Also what is it's payload capacity? The seller informed me it's a 2001 f250 superduty , 5.4l, and is 2wd. Also the truck has 41,000 miles. What do you think it's worth?
Please note I have three questions, why the 7 lug nut hubcap, what is the payload capacity, and what do you think the truck is worth? Thank you.
Look at the driver's side, rear door sticker. On the V.I.N. (vehicle identification sticker). it'll have the GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) there ... usually in the upper right corner. Deduct the actual weight of the empty truck (you'll need to take it to a weigh scale to find out) from the GVWR and you'll know what the maximum CCC (cargo carrying capacity) will be.
Once you have the V.I.N., you can also decode that information using the legend found in the Tech Folder section of this forum. You can also take the VIN to a local Ford dealer and have them run a VIN check for you.
There used to be a way to get a factory build report using one of the links on this forum ... but I'm afraid for your year (2001) of truck, the system won't work (it doesn't recognize trucks as old as ours).
What is this truck worth? ... this is a big depends. Depends on mileage, condition, options, ownership & accident history, how many are available, what you need it for and how much you like it, and regional market conditions all play a factor. Kelly Blue Book, Edmunds, eBay and autotrader can all give you some clues as to what it is worth.
This truck could be one of two things ... a F250 light Super Duty (Ford is known for carrying over items from the parts bin until they are used up) or ... a 2001 F150 with the 7 lug rims and F250 badging that someone put on. The V.I.N. will confirm what is what for you. Assuming it'll serve your needs, this truck looks like a really nice truck worth doing some more research on.
I have no idea what it's payload may be, but it should be pretty good for an '01 F-250 due to being 2WD and having the 5.4, both features reduce curb weight allowing for more payload.
It does look clean with very low miles, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Why any wheel covers?
The 7 lug trucks had pretty ugly stock steel wheels, and even the chrome clad version of the same wheel was not very attractive. These wheel covers are an improvement over the look of the stock steel wheels.
The truck in your pictures is a Super Duty and has few options. Apparently it was ordered or has been swapped to the default plain steel wheels and the wheel covers shown look better to most people than the plain steel wheels.
As noted the GVWR is listed on the certification label near the driver's door jamb, or on a SuperCab it will probably be on the front edge of the left rear door. My 99 V10 has a GVWR of 8800. I have hauled almost 2 tons in the bed several times and never had an issue. Although it is technically overloaded, it rode, handled, and stopped with no problems.
Use the Kelly Blue Book and NADA sites to get an idea of the ballpark value for your zip code with the exact options this truck has.
You're welcome.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
7 lugs only came on the F-250 that looks like a 97-03 F-150 (a 04-08 F-150 HD also exists with 7 lugs). Truck shown in pictures is 100% a true 3/4 ton Superduty. Not the ******* variant Ford released in 1998 to bridge the 1997-1999 redesign gap
Ford has ran 16" rims for 30+ yrs. Hubcaps are dime a dozen. Owner probably got a set super cheap and slapped them on to hide the ugly steelies

To expand on the content in the second paragraph, the NON-Super Duty F-250 referenced only ran from model years 1998 to 1999. In 2000, Ford renamed it the F-150 7700 in order to avoid confusion with the newly released at the time 1999 and up Super Duty trucks. Not only did 7 lug F-150s exist from '04 to '08, but from '09 to current as well (yes even the '15 to current model years too).
ADDED: And if it hasn't been mentioned or the OP hasn't clued in on it yet, I'll mention it now. Those wheel covers in the pics above are just "faux" lug nuts as in FAKE.
