Truck is a 1978 F100, 300 six, 3 on the floor 2 wheel drive. The left front Spring/Shock mounting bracket has cracked allowing the shock body to hit the frame. I need to find one, or do the CV swap. Would rather keep it original.
By the looks of your truck, it will soon need basically the whole front suspension and steering replaced. I would recommend doing the CV conversion. You will probably save money doing it. As far as keeping it original, it's not really worth it. In the end, our trucks are not rare or even hard to find. Doing a CV conversion might actually make your truck worth more. Just my two cents. Plus, I'll come by and help.
I have most everything to replace the front suspension, it was next on my list before this happened. CV conversion is an attractive alternative. I dont know if any buckets I can find will be in much better shape, plus they look like a real pain to change.
Dorman makes a replacement bucket for 1980-1996 trucks. Might be worth looking at to see if it could work. But ya gotta ask what else is rusted to the point of near failure?
You can always remove bucket and cut out bad metal and weld in new , requires a little fabrication but not impossible, all depends on what you really want,,I happen to like the twin i beam suspension just my 2cents:
I have a cut off section of frame from a 1972 F250 that the buckets may be in good shape. Let me look tonight and get some pics. I believe thay are the same.
