Seat

The seat I'm using came from a 1965 F250 and had this tag on it. I'm not sure what all that means other than a 1961 engineering number.

I've got three options. Get a different seat. Rebuild this seat somehow. Remove the rails. None of them great. I spent too much getting this one reupholstered so first option is out. I'll check with the shop on option two. I think removing the rails is the only viable solution.

U'r truck looks mitty fine, IMO, I would leave well enough alone, share and enjoy; meantime if find too uncomfortable explore options. Probly unlikely but since shop should be able to swap out seat components and mostly involve cost of labor may find quote acceptable???

Thank you that's very kind. I plan to use it as a truck and in fact have made a dump run since finishing.

A bit blurry - but doesn't that say 3 26 62 in the upper right? Seems like older than from a 1965 also, because...

If from a 1965 the tag should say STUBNITZ-VINC and C5TB8164700A followed by a few more digits that vary.

I should start researching these buck tags more.

A couple of things...
The steering column angle does not need to be changed for a Crown Vic swap. Could the column be the problem?
Another option is the Mustang-type bucket seats. They sit slightly lower.

Butt first (LOL), Drive it more and break in the seat so it conforms to you a little more.

I'm 6'2" and had the exact same issue. Was excited to get the interior re-upholstered (I bought the truck from someone who had put in some hideous after market bucket seats and center console). Got it back from the shop and the seat was so high and forward it was almost undriveable.

I came up with a pretty good solution. Took off the seat and removed the sliding rails. Drilled out the rivets in the rails and removed the sliding mechanism all together. Kept the floor mount bracket from the assembly, and bolted that to the bottom of the seat while it was out so I could line up a new bolt hold midway down the bracket. Drilled it out. Installed the mount bracket back in the cab (easy with the seat out) but threaded a bolt up through the bottom first. Set the seat back on the bracket and lined up the holes I had drilled. Four bolts will keep the seat in place (the seatbelts are bolted to the floor, so the bolts just need to keep the seat in one spot in a crash).

I also moved the brake pedal back a few inches, and now it's way more driveable. Not roomy, but driveable. Hope this helps!

Mounted bracket back on floor (note the pre-threaded bolt midway back)

Used the existing hole in the front of bracket for front bolt.

Roomy!

The seat looks a bit "over-stuffed" to me. Maybe the foam they used was thicker?
Kinda wondering how involved it would be to remove the cover and used a thinner foam. I reckon it depends on if the cover is glued to the foam.

I’d tread lightly. Read this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ench-seat.html

Needless to say, the owner spent a bunch of money the seat. And more to attempt to have it modified. It didn’t ‘take’, and it’s now for sale on FTE Marketplace.
