I have a 1997 f350 and a 1997 f250 both with 7.3 . both trucks were running fine until last week when I decided to use my evolution edge programmer to change settings from stock to tow. during the process I got a message that communication was lost . tried again with same message. now neither truck will start . the wait to start light flashes and the #2 relay in the distribution box is clicking along with a clicking in the transmission oil pan. I replaced both pcm's with ones ordered from flagship1 that were supposed to be programed for my trucks vin#'s but the same symptoms are happening and neither truck will start but they both turn over like normal .checked all fuses and they are good . what else can I check without taking them to a ford dealer ?
I would call Edge and see what they have to say. If it's the vendor I'm thinking of they can send you a master programmer to re-flash your PCM's, and I believe it's free. Your not the first to have this happen. Can't comment on the replacement PCM's, maybe the wrong type for your vehicles. It does sound like a PCM programming issue.
These computers aren't vin locked. You can take a pcm with the correct program (split vs single shot, auto vs manual) out of one truck, plug it into a similar truck, and it will work.
Edge is known as a 50/50 death sentence to our PCMs. Once you get it fixed, I would sell the edge and invest in a TS or Hydra chip.
