So I have a 2007 6.0 with 170k miles. I started hearing a very high a pitched whine... Initially I could barely hear "something", but now it is prettty loud right after you begin to accelerate. Once it gets going I can no longer hear it.
It is a really high pitched ear piercing whine... best way I can describe it.
Most likely an exhaust leak possibly the uppipe bellows or if you have the plastic CAC tube on the driverside the bellows at the bottom may be cracked.

Thanks for the feedback. It sure does not sound like an exhaust leak I've every heard but then again what do I know...
If it’s a high pitch whistle then check your Driverside CAC tube. They split over time in the folds of the bellows. Also look for soot stains on the firewall on either side of the engine for the top side and crawl underneath with a good flashlight and maybe a spot mirror.

When my up pipe bellows cracked it would make a whine or squeal like a kettle boiling. Sure it's not the fan belt? They can get pretty loud but usually when your working it hard and the fan kicks in.
Your up pipe bellows are failing and leaking, Its not a hard job to replace just start spraying all your bolts now with PB blaster this way when your ready in a couple day to change it they will come apart easier.
Well I wouldn't call it easy. Depends on how familiar you are with with pulling your turbo. I can have mine off in about 25 mins now. lol. But it's doable.
