Just driving home tonight and stopped at an intersection. Went to take off and touched the throttle and didn't move. Let off it and tried again lightly. I hear a clunk then the truck goes but no resistance in the brake pedal. Pulled over and checked things out. Got back in and there's pressure back on the pedal brakes work again. The brakes started grinding a little this most recent Saturday but I am getting new tires on end of the week so I was going to have them check everything out (I hate brakes). So did I have brakes hang up on me at that stop?
What do you mean, you had “no resistance” in the brake pedal? As in you pushed and it went to the floor? If so, DO NOT DRIVE IT. You’re drawing air into the system, possibly from a blown caliper piston seal, if the brake hung up when you started moving.
When I pressed the brake to pull over after crossing the intersection it went down with almost no force then stopped before full stroke to the floor. Like I still have either front or back brakes. Then they worked again. The not moving after I stopped then the clunk and moving is the part that scared me. A friend made a remark about the transmission so I pulled the dipstick and it's due for a change but is deep red/light brown. Not burnt smelling or dark brown/black.
Right no, I know trans has nothing to do with brakes. Didn't mean to be confusing. Just was afraid that the trans was locking up. But from what you said and what I've been reading a line failure sounds like what I have.
Fluid leak
Sudden lockup of brakes followed by no pedal resistance.
i will call the local shop in the morning to schedule my time for new tires and brakes.
Took it in and the pads are junk. One broke and got jammed against the rotor last night. New pads plus two rotors and a new set of Cooper discoverer stt pro tires is costing me $1360. Didn't think that was bad for having someone else do it. It'd cost me that to do it myself. This way I can stay at work while.it gets done. Next week is oil cooler and block heater then u joints and carrier bearing!
