rear view camera install, electrical issues to avoid
rear view camera install, electrical issues to avoid
So on a previous truck I installed a rear view camera and just ran the rca cables all the way to the dash. Under the dash I then provided power and video connections. This worked pretty well except I got some weird horizontal lines on the monitor ones I was driving and got up to speed.
Still not sure what caused it but on my newer truck I want to avoid this. The old setup was pretty cheap but when the truck wasn't moving it provided a great color picture. Any ideas ? The 'newer' truck is a 2001 f250 sd shortbed supercab.
Can I prevent it by connecting ground closer to the camera?
Thanks !

Also, what is the power source for the camera and monitor? On my EX, I tapped into the reverse lights for power to the camera. That way, the camera comes on only when the vehicle is in reverse gear. From what I read, you have a dedicated monitor for the reverse camera. If your monitor is powered by one of the power ports/cigarette lighter plugs, that might be a reason for the interference, as I have seen on some other cars. That will require a RFI isolator of some sort. I use my Android Stereo head unit as my reverse camera display.
Good luck with the troubleshooting.
