I am looking to install a two camera dash cam system to my 2011 F-250, 6.7L Diesel, Crew Cab. I have searched this site, the web and youtube for pictures or videos that can help me route the wire from the rear dash cam to the front cam.
The shortest route is under the headliner. I know that I can remove the door trim and have access to the area under the headliner but how do I get around the side curtain airbags in the truck?
Can I push the rear cable above and behind the side curtain airbags or do I need to remove the headliner?
Anybody have any other cable routing ideas or pictures?
I wonder if there's enough room for a fish tape between the headliner to go front to back? If not, I'd run the wires down the pillar to the floor, then back up at the A pillar. I don't like messing with the headliner because I can never get it to fit right again.
I've got a Street Guardian SGZC12SG dash-cam in my truck. I hate wires and will do almost anything to prevent having to buy a wired product. Unfortunately there aren't any wireless dash-cam that I know of so I will make do with what's available. I too had to route the 12 volt power wire around the headliner and down the A pillar on the passenger side to the 12 volt power plug.
It's been over 2 years since I installed mine, I'll have to go look tomorrow.
But I know I tucked the wires up into the front of the head liner, over to the passenger side and 1 wire down the column and into the fuse box by the passenger foot well and the second wire I continued to the back window for the rear facing camera. All you can see are a couple of inches of wire just above each of the two camera, like in the photo above
On page1 of this thread that I created some time back, it shows how to drop the headliner for installation of some lights. Dropping the headliner should be about the same process for installing some wires. Pretty simple process.
I would go across and down to floor and into door sill plates. Avoid putting wires next to airbags. Bad idea. Especially since the airbags deploy with force and anything in close could cause a malfunction or become a projectile safety first
