What is the clockspring?

I've seen reference to the "Clockspring" and wonder what it is, where is it, and what does it control. I appoligize if this has been covered before.

What is the clockspring?

It is the "wiring harness" in the steering wheel that is used for all those buttons on the wheel. It winds up and unwinds as you turn the wheel back and forth.
