Rla I picked up a pack of resistors to do this repair ... Was wondering, if the computer loses the signal when that circuit goes open can it cause the truck to die? I wiggled the section I found a problem with while the engine was running and it ran just fine.
Ignition Diagnostic Monitor (IDM) is just that, a monitor. I would not think it would cause driveability issues. The computer is using the PIP signal to set the timing.
I have seen a few folks find the splice for the IDM resistor have a cold solder joint. Resistor may be fine, could be a simple soldering fix. Peel back the wrap you'll see what is going on.
FWIW...my Ford manual states 20,000 to 24,000 ohms is fine. Your 21.5K is in the ball park. The OL (Oh Lord!) is what you need to be concerned with right now.
Update: Got the resistor wired and soldered. Used the good crimps that Ford makes and put plenty of heat shrink to protect it all. As of now the truck hasn't hiccuped/lost power and I have not got a 212 code yet. So, at this point if it does throw 212 with driveability symptoms I will investigate the TFI module.
