I only have this code truck runs good then acts up and stalls I have replaced the fpr and checked no fuel coming out once the vacuum line is off. The truck originally had the Grey Idm from Po I put black one back in ran great for a while. I had the pcm ' s capacitors replaced I replaced the distributor with one from Bennett auto. Now all of a sudden this is happening. How do I test the idm. I think this is what is causing it due to the Po replacing it and not putting any thermal paste on it where it seats to the heat synch
Ok, if it's overheating, an easy trick would bento take the wife's hairdryer or girlfriends and heat the module up. Do this after it has a chance to be cold started, like overnight or for several hours.
Next step would be to run by Radioshack and get some thermal paste if you believe it's not there.
Yes I did but I installed the idm back in November and when I cleared the codes I let it sit over night with battery disconnected after pulling jumper from test port drove around for half an hour then I started to act like it was losing fuel all this happened after filling rear tank and adding 30 bucks to front
I have not seen any Motorcraft brand black ICM go bad but they do get replaced.
I pick up Motorcraft black ICM's at pick & pulls and all that I have tested are good ones.
If you have another brand I would start by replacing the ICM with a Motorcraft brand Black ICM.
When I bought the truck it had a Grey motorcraft one in it the original black one was in the glove box I installed it back in November. It's worked ever since. How do you bench test it.
I swap them out on my truck and drive it for a while is how I test mine. There are write ups on the net on how to do it but unless it is burned up those will not help much.
The test would also need you to heat the ICM up to be very meaning full.
94 f150 e40d 4.9 don't know if it's the gray or black Is the correct module but Lile I said the black one was installed in November and ran fine since when I got the truck there was a mess of stuff needed to be done
