I use a cupholders version
I tried one of the flexible ones but didn't like it.
This on worked better for me. Ebay has some cheaper versions but they are shorter.
Dash mount didn't see good to me.
My cupholders perished with the doghouse storage stuff. Largely broken, and in the way of my 6'5" legs. I plan to build custom storage bins there that don't cut into knee space.
So I ain't got no cupholders...
I use this. Originally it uses a suction cup to secure to a smooth surface on the doghouse, but didn't hold well with the cold temps and vibration. I drilled a couple hols and screwed it top the cup holder tray I built.
I wound up buying one like that today, Motor Trend brand, for only $12. It's stuck to the windshield and so far, so good. Did you too suffer doghouse console failure?
I use a Panavise InDash mount in my F-150, which is thin enough to fit between the trim panels and screw to the dash under the trim. It looks like they make a version for the E-Series vans: PanaVise Products, Inc.

Also, hey, jayro! We're a long way from SHOForum, eh?
A little ways away.......but not too far. It's still a Ford. Still have my '94 mtx sitting in my shop. Hoping to figure out a Cam sensor misfire this winter and get it back on the road/track.
To the OP mine didn't have a single cup holder when I got it. I built the wooden console in the pic put of a 1x12 and some dowel rod. I have a thread on it somewhere I can link if you interested.
OP here, I have some nice plastic storage bin take-offs from Ram/Fiat vans that I plan to install there. We tend to drink from water bottles with caps so don't need cupholders much.

Funny comparison between my '88 E250 and my wife's 2010 Sienna. Mine was originally a 7 passenger setup from the factory and had ZERO cup holder. Her's is an 8 passenger and has 15 cup holders. I guess everyone in the Sienna can be double fisting it except the driver......he needs 1 hand for the wheel.
I used a cooler that had some shallow cup holder in the lid at first. Water bottles eliminated any spills, but the bottles would still fall over and start rolling around due to starts/stops/turns.
I dislike Michael Moooooore intensely, but he's right that we drink too much soda. My F-350 has more cupholders than seats too.
Funny thing--my '13 F-150 has more seats than cupholders (three seats; two cupholders), and they (the cupholders) are down at floor level--and inaccessible if you have someone in the center seat.
Still, that's better than the zero cupholders in my '91.
