I traded in my 2013 F250 6.7 for a 2017 F350 KR. My question is, when setting up the gain control in my F250 I had no problems getting the trailer wheels to lock up during the initial setup. In my F350 with a full gain of 10, I can only get my trailer brakes to drag ever so lightly. Wheel will not lock up. Could there be a problem with the trucks controller or do you think the problem is with my fifth wheel. Can't understand why it worked in the 250 and not the 350.
I think there are some additional menu options regarding trailer size that will affect brake output, might be worth a look.
Edit, this is what the manual states... Menu should be Towing -> Trailer Setup -> Change Trailer Settings -> Change Brake Effort
Trailer Brake Effort Setting
The trailer brake controller allows the user
to customize how aggressively the trailer
brakes engage. The default value is the low
setting and is the recommended setting
for most trailers. If your trailer's brakes
require more initial voltage, or if you prefer
more aggressive trailer braking, then select
either the medium or the high setting.
I hesitate to say it's normal but I'm experiencing the same thing towing a 2016 Arctic Fox 35-5Z (39'). I can feel the trailer brakes but never able to lock them up on 10 gain setting... Regardless of the other trailer related settings. Even had trailer brakes checked and they were adjusted correctly. I have a 2017 F350 DRW.
Put the effort on high, gain at 10, get rolling 20 mph on gravel and then spike the slider. Antilock, sway control, traction control I think are working in concert for you.
