I have an 87 Bronco with a 351W 4bbl and C6 tranny. I know chevys really well, but not so much on fords. I found a 72 429 big block with a c6 tranny for sale. My question is will it fit and mount in the same spot as my 351w? It is also 4 wheel drive.
yes it will fit, im not shure if you have to change the motor mounts but i think so, othe than the exhaust and the motor mounts it should fit with out much of a problem, i wish i had the 351 motor but you to far away. DW
Just use the 429 and the C6 that came with it. Then all you need is motor mounts, remote oil filter and possibly passenger side exhaust manifold from a truck. L&L Products makes everything you'll need.
Thanks for the replies. I am still undecided if I am gonna do the motor swap cause the 351w still runs pretty good. I just like to look and see what is for sale, and the 429 sounded like a good deal and I just wanted to know if it would fit, and it sounds like it will. At some point I definitly want to drop in a big block, either that 429 or a 460. are the motor mounts in the same spot for all the big blocks( in other words, do they bolt on at the same spot on the cross member)? Also, I know that they sell different springs for cars that have big blocks, does the same thing hold true for trucks as well?
Motor mounts will bolt right in. I went to L&Ls because I kept breaking stock mounts. I'm still using the stock Bronco front springs and have had 429/460s in it since 1986. There's under 200lbs additional weight with the 385s over a 351.
I,m interested in this swap also.I have another 1980 BRONCO and want to do the same change. Are the mounts that are bolted to the chassis rails the same. Will the 429 fit by only changing the rubber mounts and not the chassis part of the mounts also. (Can you understand what I mean cause I can,t.)
