Gem or something else

I have a 99 ford f350 with the v10 and 180000 miles. Around June it died and I replaced the tps and it worked for a couple months then the same problem came back. I have since replaced the tps, pigtail coming off the tps, checked the iac it was good. Currently at the shop but they can not duplicate the problem. Always the same problem, revs up once on its own, cel starts flashing and then it starts running rough. It will usually die within a minute or two after it revs up. The shop thinks it might be a gem module. Any other ideas?

I dont think the gem on a 99 controls anything to do with the engine. No Ideas...need more info.

It ain't the GEM module. Best idea I can come up with is to find a shop that knows how the Ford system works.

FWIW, there was likely nothing wrong with the TPS, either, based on the reported symptoms.

The computer will not hold any codes. I can run a scanner on it right after it happens but no codes will be present.

my early 99 was giving me similar fits. no codes ran as described. ended up disconnecting one COP at a time noting idle quality change, ended up having two bad cops. the first was very clear that there was no change in engine performance the second one you really had to pay attention that nothing changed, put those in and it runs like a top

Have you tried pulling codes during the same key-on ignition cycle as when the MIL flashed? If you power off and the circuit that supplies KAM isn't working, the PCM will reset within a few minutes of the engine being switched off.

I have tried that. Saturday it died in my driveway so I ran the code reader on it while the key was still in the on position so it hopefully would not lose power and drop a code. I have now replaced the plugs and boots, cleaned the iac and egr, replaced the crankshaft position sensor and put a new battery in it. I will see this week if it acts up on me again.

If it just died, it likely didn't set any codes. You have to catch it when the MIL comes on while operating.
