Did the BB mod on the fuel pressure regulator and pressure went from around 45 to 55 psi. Hard to tell because gauge was bouncy. But it did increase. problem was fuel filter light came on right after. Has new filter, clean fuel. I did notice that the fuel heater was broken and unplugged it so it wouldnt blow a fuse. stuck a small magnet down below it and all kinds of stuff was on the magnet. Two questions. Why would the fuel filter light come on and where might those metallic particles have come from? Truck is a 96 f350 7.3 4x4
X2 on fuel filter screen possibility. You can clean it by removing the fuel bowl lid and on drivers side, inside the bowl near the top, is a hole. Inside that hole is a screen and its purpose is to allow air to vent back to the tank. Take something like a q tip with cotton removed and gently scrape away any debris. This will allow any air trapped in the fuel bowl to return to the tank, if that's the issue.
The metallic particles could be just fuel tank DE-lamination over the years. That is what the filter is for but they are heavy and tend to just sit on the bottom of the bowl and not much pressure inside the bowl itself to push them into the filter.
I decided to just take the FPR out to inspect and clean it. There was no screen. none of the other parts that go there, were there. im going to take it apart and see what else it needs. I swear this truck is a head banger. can anyone tell me what those missing parts do?
What parts are you referring to, do you have a link on pictures? The screen tends to fall out when removing the FPR, by you or previous owner. Might be down in the valley. There should be a screen and behind the screen is a small check ball, don't have a clue what it is for. Of course there is the o-ring too.
Purpose of the screen is to filter particles as behind that screen is a very small orifice, I think .02 thousands. This allows air to bleed back to the tank. Without the screen that orifice would clog quickly, I would think. If you still have it apart just blow some compressed air in there.
