1.) Trash from bottom of tank more than likely got into new filtr and making idle not good at traffic lights.
That's what the filter is there for. To collect trash and such to keep it away from the injectors.

Draining the bowl will only help if you've got water in the bowl. Putting a new filter in will only help if the filter is completely clogged already (unlikely)

Yes it gets rid of water. It's not designed to remove trash or debris.
If you're convinced it's fuel related, hook up a fuel pressure gauge. There are two test ports on the back side of the fuel bowl. Check the pressure on each of them (one pre and one post filter). That will put your mind at ease about the fuel issue.
How much fuel leaked out and did it get any sensors wet with fuel? Is your engine oil clean and full? Any other symptoms?
Hutch mod time, it's a good preventative maintainence mod. Look in the bottom of the fuel bowl. If you see tons of junk in the bottom of the bowl all that is passing through your fuel pump and possibly the fuel filter getting to your injectors.
Engine oil was changed when 1st filter was changed. Yes lost at least 1/4 tank of fuel. Whole uner hood was sprayed from top of fuel filter.
Symptons were it was like it was running but transmission was slipping. Turned motor off and back on and it didnt do it any more. Just a litlle ruff on idle at traffic stops.
Of course I.m getting these symptons second hand. Its happening to my wife while I'm out of town working.
When you get home and get some breather time.....use rags to remove any and all fuel that still remains in the valley area. Remove the ICP sensor plug and spray it out with electrical cleaner on the wire end and sensor end. Do the same for your IPR. If you think that the fuel went to the front half of the engine you should do the CPS, EBP sensor, Engine oil temp sensor. It will take some time. Keep track of the little gaskets inside of the plugs. A lot of that fuel drained down between your oil pan and transmission. Some of it might have ended up inside the inspection plate on your transmission and therefore got on your pressure plate and clutch plate. If auto transmission then forget I mentioned it.
