I talked to my salesman today about whether the Sync in my '15 F-450 had an update. It has the original A5 card. He said they were up to A7 and that I could buy them on ebay much cheaper than Ford parts. I checked on ebay and they're selling 2018 A8 cards for about $54. Just wondering if it's worth upgrading. I know my nav system seemed to be out of date when I received the truck in August '14.
I suspect 75% or more of the roads are the same. But, what about that one time it wasn't and you got yourself is a sticky situation where no decent turn arounds or back tracking.
I have upgraded my 2015 F350 each year. I am currently running A8. Have I noticed a difference, not yet, but I do wonder if it would have routed me a different way than last year when I went to go to Crystal Lake. It put me off on a small two lane back road that was under construction.
I just upgraded the NAV in my 2011 F350 for the first time. Had taken it on a trip and, while the roads hadn’t changed, some of the exit numbers had. Figured might as well get it updated......
Wow, y'all are lucky that the updates for Sync actually update the maps, if only a little. In my Dodge Charger, the updates to the UConnect system are for the UConnect system only. If you want maps updated, it costs $149. And that's if your particular car will even allow an update. Which of course mine does not. It's a 2015, and and the maps are horribly outdated. At least 2012 and maybe earlier.
But back to Ford, I only have the Sync, not the Nav. I upgraded that to the latest version, and lost a lot of functionality with my iPhone. I ended up downgrading to get back the lost functionality.

that’s what i had to pay to update my nav - $149. Thst’s why I didn’t bother doing it for six years. I did update my Sync once successfully - that’s free though; it’s a download over the internet to a usb drive then to the truck. I’ve tried to update it again, but couldn’t get it to do it so I gave up. The Sync and nav updates are separate on my 2011.
I tried to update my Sync and it failed miserably. I cant start over because the website wont let me. Now I see that sync is going away. Not sure what is going on. For the most part not sure when sync and my map software integrate. I do know it you want a address and you get multiple choices than it didn't understand you. Sometimes this sucks. I havent upgraded my map yet. It comes on a sd card that you put in the slot and leave it in there.

You can try running a vehicle health report and then check the owner's website to see if you can get the sync update again.
You can download Sync2 update v3.08 on this website.
The SD cards are copy protected in such a manner you can not copy and use them. I did buy one recently that was a copy. I think it was copied on a duplicator capable of reproducing the protection.
Check eBay. You can find them for around $50 each.
