Missing a sensor on my Engine Bay Exhaust section

I have a problem with my 2008 F350 6.4L Diesel which has been DPF /EGR deleted and Spartan Tuned which may or may not be important with the following issue. All of this work was carried out on the truck before I took ownership so I do not have details of the shop that did the work, which is proving an issue for me with the problem that I have now.

It happened just as I got on the gas. I heard a pop come from the Engine Bay, and then exhaust noise similar to if i had a whole in the exhaust (noise also from the Engine bay), before the cab started to fill with Diesel fumes. After an inspection I found where the exhaust gases were coming from. The picture I have uploaded with this post explains my issue way better than I can say here, although the picture doesn't really help with location on the Truck. This picture was taken on the drivers side towards the back of the Engine bay, underneath the front of cab, close to the Firewall.

Given that I found a sensor partially melted and missing its threaded metal end, I was under the impression that I needed a new Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor [EBP], which the P0472 Engine Code that came up on the scan also supported this theory. The trouble is, having watched a few videos on You tube, the location for this component on the 2008 is different to where I thought it was going to be fitted (i.e the hole where I have exhaust gases comes from). On my truck the Sensor wiring, and tubing was all zip tied where it is shown in the picture. The tubing isn't even connected which might be standard for an EGR/DPF/Tuned Truck?. Secondly, the sensor wiring was zip tied in such a way that it seems like that it was intended to connect to an EBP sensor that would install into the Exhuast down pipe hole, but since I don't have a picture from before this issue I cannot say for sure. (The slack in the cable and zip tie locations definitely suggests it though)

Anyway, I ordered the 2008 EBP Sensor (pictured next to my burnt, missing a bit, destroyed one) and thought this was going to be easy.. NOPE. This Sensor doesn't fit. The thread is way too small for the Exhaust fitting. I'm also not convinced that a Metal ended, Plastic Sensor will stand up to the temps its going to be subjected too here.

I tried to photograph the thread in the Exhaust, and carried out a few more searches for Ford EBP sensors. The result is that "I THINK" the 6.0L EBP Sensor which uses a 1/2 – 20 UNF-2B Thread will fit perfectly. To test the theory, I bought a 1/2 – 20 UNF-2B Threaded Bolt and it goes in nicely even if it is too long but it does stop Exhaust gases getting out so I can at least get it to a shop now without burning a hole in the fire wall. But why would they use a 6.0L EBP Sensor on an 2008 Truck? Maybe it's down to being a custom install again?

The 6.0L EBP Sensor (DPFE6) should be here this week, but I still want to know if I'm on the right path.

So does a EGR/DPF delete and Spartan tune change some all of this stuff up? I can understand that a custom install would potentially result in custom sensors, or re-use of standard sensors in new locations, but it doesn't help me figure out what I need to do, hence this post.

Any help very much appreciated.

That is where the EBP sensor goes. There is supposed to be a pipe thread to flare fiting that screws into that hole, the tube that is laying there screws onto that fitting, and the sensor screws onto the tube. Originally the tube would have went down behind the head close to the EGR cooler. My truck is also deleted, i will try to get a picture for you

I think you can see what it’s supposed to be like...I just have mine tied to the fuel line right beside the fuel cooler...my tube is actually upside down from what it was originally, the bends were closer to what i wanted when i moved the sensor. But screwing the ebp sensor straight into the downpipe will most certainly IMO melt the plastic part of it off

Herbiemin. Thank you thank you thank you for posting those pictures. Now I know what I need to do. I’m still curious as to how mine was set up before the “pop” but I should be able to make this work provided the threads all match up. If not I will get an adaptor fitting made to make it work.
