Blown fuses, smoke and bumps in the night.
Hello,
I have been tinkering with a 1970 f100 that I finally decided to get up and running. Well after I got the engine working fine I decided to work on the electronics. First thing I did was replace the turn signal switch and matched all the wires up correctly as far as I know. After I di did this I attempted to start the truck but nothing happened, no tick from the starter or anything... So I replaced the starter relay... But that did not help either. I then noticed a few blown fuses and replaced them all. I tested the hazards lights that are on the dash and instantly the fuse blew again then I noticed a bit of smoke coming from the column around the steering wheel, took that off and noticed the yellow/black wire burnt a bit... But as far as I know this is for the left turn signal.. And the truck still won't start... A little info, it's a 1970 f100 with a 331 stroker and Ford AOD transmission, I had to place a automatic steering column from a late 70s truck for the automatic shifter, so the wiring coming from the column is a bit different (it has hazards on the column bit I did not connect them to the truck, they are taped off) does anyone have any ideas as to what may be the problem? Or do you need more info? I am stumped and after 3 hours of piking around I'm spent... I appreciate any feedback!

If that column has a 4-way flasher switch in it then it's a 78/79 column.
