Intermittent CEL: EGR issues
I'd appreciate any pointers you guys might have in fixing an intermittent Check Engine Light I'm having on my 1992 E250 5.8L. The light sometimes goes off, but most of the time it's on.
Last time I checked the codes, it spat out a bunch:
558, 558, 1, 327, 328, 332, 327, 328, 332
Not sure why some repeat, but they all seem related to EGR.
What should I check first? What's a common issue?
Thanks!
Yes, all codes leads to the EGR valve.
Check out this Link.
Could be as simple as checking that the passage way is not plugged up, the valve is not stuck, or vacuum line to the position sensor is rotted out, or replacing the EGR positioning sensor.

EGR Valve Position (EVP) Sensor Testing & Replacement - Ford Bronco Forum
He did a great job explaining how and what to check for. However, I'm not too sure if my readings are out of spec or not:
Voltage on connector: 3.80V (although the first time I checked it was 5.98V)
Resistance between VREF and EVP: 3.68k ohms (supposed to be <5k ohms?)
Resistance between SIG RTN and EVP: 547 ohms (supposed to be just over 100 ohms?)
Can anyone chime in before I replace it?
UPDATE: Took the sensor off and re-measured:
SIG RTN - EVP measures 30 ohms. If you push the pin in, it'll go all the way up to 3.7k ohms. This means with it installed the pin gets slightly pushed in and reads ~500ohms. Not sure what all this means, I'm starting to think the sensor is just fine.
I decided to check the EVR (electronic vacuum regulator solenoid). Resistance is supposed to be 20-45 ohms. Mine measured 33. All ok. Then I decided to power it up with 12V to see if the solenoid actually worked. Sparks flew at the battery so I tried the other direction, sparks still flew. Now resistance measures 2.5 ohms
My mechanic friend says I couldn't have fried it based on the flow of electricity if it's just a 2 pin connector, which it is. All the codes did seem to point to the EVR...so hopefully this was the problem anyway. Now the question is, where do I order the OEM part? The part number on the original part is F1TE-C1A 9J459.
Both rockauto.com and summitracing.com have "Standard Motor Products" parts.

What's the difference between the VS52 and VS81?
