EGR System Question
The check engine light has been on for a few weeks. My brother is a diesel mechanic and had access to a GeniSys Scanner Computer. We hooked it up to the EEC-V and it came up with a code of 1400 - DPFE circuit below mininum voltage. He wasn't certain what the actual problem was since he only works on diesels. I checked my manual and the codes are a little different, but code PO400 (PO standing for powertrain) in the manual represents EGR flow malfunction. I ran some of the tests in the manual, including checking voltage to the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid, Voltage to the DPFE sensor and Amps from the DPFE sensor, and all those appeared normal.
Does anyone by chance have any idea what my problem might be (with the truck, that is)?
Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The most common cause of EGR codes is a faulty DPFE sensor.
You can check to make sure the EGR valve is working properly by applying vacuum to it with the engine idling. If the EGR is working properly the engine will stall or come close to stalling. If it does then you should probably replace the DPFE sensor. Th DPFE is a small rectangular shaped sensor with 2 small hoses and one electrical connector on it. The 2 small hoses come off the pipe that goes from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve. It should be on or near the front of the intake manifold. I havent replaced one on a 3.0 lately so I dont remember exactly
Thanks again.
