2002 steering wondering left & right?
Group,
Is there a common problem with the SuperDuty's having steering issues? As you drive down the road it wonders all over the road. you are constantly steering back and forth to keep it going strait. It drives me nuts, hate driving the truck! I have had ball joints replaced, track bar, tie rod ends. Truck only has 64k on it so I am stumped. my Mechanic says it is the steering box. Could it be something as simple as a front end alignment needing done? Steering stabilizer???
Thanks in advance.
Sam

Could be the steering box, does the steering wheel have play?
Your new tires? Do they have directional strips or are they blocky? In general, tires with definite strips steer better.
The steering stabilizer helps with a feeling of stability, a worn stabilizer can give a sense of wandering. But I have usually felt other symptoms with that such as vibrations and wobbles; you did not mention those issues.
One truck I had running oversize BFG A/T wandered even after getting rid of all play and a good alignment. Had another alignment to add more caster than stock and it drove much better after that.

Steering wheel does have some play. As for tires I have Goodyear wranglers, Blocky type. Steering stabilizer is relatively new last 3-4 years, but remember I have a 15 year old truck with only 64,xxx miles so not very many miles since new. I think I am going to try the alignment first.
Thanks for all the replies!
