Great Thread, I have a short tale. I worked with a lawn crew this past year, and I was edging this really nice apartment complex's yard. I hit a soft spot about halfway through and slung some mud. I walked back to my TRUCK (Bronco) to extract the said mud from my left eye (I was wearing Eye protection).
Right as I regain some of my sight, a guy in his explorer pulls up and starts to tell me how mad he was that there was Mud on his explorer. He drives off without me saying a work.
Next is a guy, footbal player that I recognized, driving an Escalade. There was mud, I Mean a lot, all up the side of the oversized luxury sedan. This guy got out of his car, started to yell about how I was stupid, how I needed to clean this up, and How he was going to "press charges". I didn't help the situation when I told him how sorry I really was, and how if he hadn't parked his momma's Escalade right next to the Mud it may not have happened.
Haha. Well, I think we know the difference between SUV (escalade and the like) and A Real Man's vehicle the Bronco.
I have both an Explorer and a Bronco. The Bronco serves the same purpose it's just bigger. In other words I would consider it an SUV, but refered to a truck in casual conversation.
Notice, I never said the Bronco was THE first, just the first one MARKETED expressly as a "utility vehicle". There were plenty of utility-type vehicles that preceded the Bronco by many years.
To be honest most of the time I just call it my toy. I ony wash the mud off the area I'm working at any given time. It has been a garden tool carried mountain bikes SCUBA gear dirt bricks, it has no doors almost never a top and If I see a big dirty puddle that I dont have to run over too many pedestrians to hit I hit it. IT is my sport its very useful and when its not half taken apart it is a vehicle, so call it what you like.
What I dont understand is two guys that go to my gym have expensive "offroad" vehicles (1 Hummer 2 and 1 jeep rubicon)
both have entertainment centers????
I dont mean a radio with tape or cd, I mean dvd players with monitors, the hummer2 has 3 screens (1 in front and 1 on the back of each seat for the back)not to metion subwoofer as big as thier oversized rims and lowprofile tires. I asked the guy with the rubicon Why he bought it he said the arb lockers? how would he know he doesnt even drive it in the rain.
sorry for the rant but if ya got it use it.
mine (79) "the truck" Colorado calls it a station wagon. Heck, I have halled dry wall, a couple hot water heaters, a frezzer, lumber, and much more with the top off. I have halled the grand kids and others with the top on and the seat in. I have halled the wife, dogs, and a couple rifles into the Rockies, and dead Elk out of the Rockies. It gets me to the 7-11 and back, or to the Mtn's and back. It's still my truck, but I just got a 74 F100, so the Bronco might have to be just "The Bronco". nuff said
BTW From the '90 model Bronco on (may be off on the year) there was a steel rollover bar included on the trucks. You really can't see it, but the shoulder strap belts are bolted to them.
Rew,
You the man - you can call 'em just what you want - that's what i do. esp if you are in the rockies, 'cause you are closer to "the man"
congrats on the 74 F100. First truck i ever owned. Man i loved that truck, i still see it to this day driving around town. Want to see it stoped one day and talk the guy out of it..............
You might want to consider calling yours a real truck, the f100 that is
Most Californians consider my '90 Bronco a redkneck vehicle. I night I park it next to my Rodeo. Damn I have a theme going and they are both blue. The Bronco was built in Louisville KY and the Rodeo in Indiana. Blazers and Broncos the tops come off. Now they don't . Now the imitators have the Tops come off lik some of the Toyotas and Rodeo Sports.
