Big day today. Truck out of the shop and down the road on its own power, and back again! How cool is that.
It needs an alignment, definitely needs front shocks and a bit of brake line bleeding. But dang it - she’s been out there on a real road. Very exciting.
Hey hey hey....congratulations!
How long since it last ran down the road?
Last year it was registered was 1972 - we've confirmed that. It sat in a barn in Alberta until we bought it in 2015, and started serious work on it last July (2016). I wouldn't be surprised if it was run around the farm a bit over the years because it cranked right up when we hooked up a battery, but this is the first road trip for it in 45 years.
And yes, it is a great feeling. Made my day/week/etc.
Picture from last week after we got it all back together. Lots of stuff has gone on underneath, and in the engine compartment, and the wiring, but the sheet metal can wait a while, while we enjoy this a bit.
My F3 was in a barn 20 years. The bed was Swiss cheese and fenders had holes. The engine was frozen and shot. You’re is amazing for 45 years. The beast was in a barn for 42 years and took a lot of work but no rust. Have fun.
The reason we jumped at it was because of the shape it's in - it means we've been able to put a bunch of updates on it without worrying about the body, frame, engine, or interior. We were very lucky with this one - but we've been watching for years to find one one of these 48+ Fords and this one literally fell into my lap one day while I was talking to my Audi service guy. I had 4 hours to make up my mind. Wasn't hard.
First drive is indeed a very big deal, congratulations. I can almost see the huge ear to ear smile on your face, we all seem get one on that first drive.
