Failed smog

Kinda like the free state I'm in that allows concealed carry without a permit and has 80% public land for me to recreate on year round. I have suggestions on what they can do with their smog testing though....
I am originally from Wyoming....I miss it there, but there was no money to be made there in my field.

Well I love Arizona and I've lived here for almost 25 years. It's also where my job, my family, and my friends are. Moving simply to avoid smog is kinda silly.
I finally sought out some help. I could not find vac leaks significant enough to cause the lean misfire I was having. A trusted shop pulled the carb and it had gunk in the venturies and jets, and float levels were off. I took it back through and she passed with flying colors....barely registered any HCs by comparison.
Good to go. Off to get the trans rebuilt and hopefully I'll be back on the trails shortly.

Glad it was something fairly simple...
Back in the day...
A car came in for a major tune every 12 months. One step was a carb overhaul as the 2100 and 4100 were so simple.
With today's fuel (meant for closed EFI Systems - not open air carburetion) it might not be a bad idea to throw a kit at it once in a while.

Meangreen92 must adjust carbs in his sleep!
How about your idle mixture settings, where are they? They should normally be about 1.5 turns out from tightened/bottom/fully seated.
If your choke is indeed not staying open after warm-up, then you might just need to adjust it by turning the bi-metal spring housing. It probably doesn't need to move much, and you might found that you went too far the next time you start it in cold weather...

^^^ You're reading some of the best idle/choke adjustment guidance ever posted on FTE. If you can use a vacuum gauge (auto parts stores will loan you one, and Harbor Freight sells usable ones cheap) you'll find just the settings he's talking about. This sounds like a pretty easy work-through for you.
Those tips are in my tuning box of tricks. I have a vac guage. I did not tear down the carb, though, and that's what needed to happen.
