I was just wondering if anyone has purchased tires online and how was your experience? Do you think that you got a better price just going to the store?
Never done the online thing. I have gotten some great deals on Black Friday though. I price shop around and normally are running larger rebates as well.
I’ve purchased online; never had an issue. It’s actually easier when you’re buying tires and rims at the same time because you have a better selection vs going to a local store that has a limited inventory snd requires appointments and driving back and forth.
That's a good way to buy, because most places will ship them mounted and balanced. When I was shopping, I found the best price on wheels and tires on 2 different sites. Discount tire matched the prices on both (including the difference in tax) and both were there in a few days. 1 stop and I drove off with lifetime balance and rotation.
I've purchased on-line through Tire Rack. When I was able to pick up the tires/wheels at their warehouse about a half an hour away from me - their price was best.
However, the tires-wheel combination for the truck in my signature were only available at their Colorado warehouse, and shipping from there was gonna be ~$180 for all 4.
Even though it was a bit more costly ordering through my local tire place, shipping was free, so I came out ~$100 ahead for the same exact stuff.
Ordering online is OK but unless you've the ability to mount and balance the tires on wheels it's probably not going to save any money. Ask for the date code before ordering - they'll try to send three year old tires. You want fresh stock.
Goodyear G622 19.9 14 ply.
Discount tire is my store of choice but they cannot handle 19.5 inch wheels.
Goodyear G622 do sing a little, but they are tough and still look good.
Michelin XDS2's would be my tire of choice but they are little more...
Toyo makes a 19.5 and I hear/see/read good things about them.
In wheel sizes like 18, 19, 20 inch my favorite is Goodyear DURA-TRAC.
They are excellent in mud, snow and ice and are relatively quiet.. More so than the G622's. A Lot more quiet
I stopped buying BFG's All Terrain KO's because they are just not good in snow and ice. The tire snow pack easily and do not self clean. After they pack in about 5 seconds, get out and look and see how smooth they are. The Dura-Trac's were excellent. The Dura-Trac's look aggressive, but still work excellent on highway or city all seasons. Grip is very very good... I almost ran into someone with an emergency stop at 50mph, with ABS kicking in. I came to a safe stop.. Whew!! I knew the BFG's would not have stopped me. Those Dura-Trac tires saved me from what could have been very serious accident.
I'll say something else... Goodyear will back their product.
I had a problem and there was a no hassle replacement set of tires waiting for me at the store the next day. No Charge... Rebalance No Charge and even Road Force balance No Charge. Thank You Goodyear I still remember and appreciate what you did.
