I'm getting ready to paint my bed and I noticed that there appears to be an extra square hole on the flange that covers the edge of the wood. I was about to weld it up but in doing some research I found a picture of the same area posted earlier this year by Indybeer that seems to show the same hole. It's toward the back and falls in-between two of the seven holes that attach the side to the wood. It looks like it may be slightly out of line with the other holes on the flange and it isn't in line with the holes on the bed strips. Is this an extra hole or does it have some purpose?
Thanks for your replies. I knew there was a fender brace that needed to attach to the rear fender but I though it attached to the frame. When I got the truck it had a wrap around bumper that was bolted to the rear fenders without the brace.
If you're trying to stay original, what kind of bolt is used in the hole where the brace attaches to the fender? I assumed it was a carriage bolt but the hole in the reproduction steel fenders that I bought is round. Also, would the original bolt head have been painted body color, black or is it chrome?
